Shut Down Or Reboot Your Computer

Windows
When using the Windows 7 (and earlier) operating system, you can reboot the computerin these ways:
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Restart (or Shut Down).
- Click the Start button, select Restart. (To shut down, select Turn Off Computer or Shut Down.)
Linux
Using Linux and the MATE desktop (e.g. Ubuntu-MATE), you have these three methods:
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Bksp. This doesn't reboot the computer, but it does restart X Windows. Most Linux distributions have this key combination enabled by default. Ubuntu MATE does not. Follow these instructions to enable it.
- From the System menu, select Shut Down, then select Restart (or Shut Down).
- Click the Shut Down icon in the panel, then select Restart (or Shut Down).
Using Linux Mint and the MATE or the Cinnamon desktop, you have these methods:
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Bksp. This doesn't reboot the computer, but it does restart X Windows.
- Click the Menu button on the panel, and select the Quit button, then select Restart (or Shut Down).
Using Linux and the KDE desktop manager, you have these three methods:
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Bksp. This doesn't reboot the computer, but it does restart X Windows.
- From the K-Menu, select Log Out, or Restart Computer.
- Right-click the desktop, then select Log Out.
